Stamp value does not override mailpiece rules
Adding enough dollar value cannot turn every envelope into a First-Class Mail letter. A piece that is too thick, rigid, nonrectangular, uneven, too heavy, or outside letter dimensions may pay a different price or be treated as a package. International mail can also require a customs form or have country-specific restrictions.
- Weigh the finished piece, including every insert.
- Measure length, height, and thickness.
- Check whether it bends easily and is uniformly thick.
- Select the actual service before calculating stamps.
- When uncertain, take the sealed piece to a Post Office counter.
Can old Forever stamps be combined?

Placement and practical limits
Place stamps on the address side in the upper-right area without overlapping them or covering the address, return address, or barcode-clear zone. A crowded envelope is a sign that exact-denomination postage or a counter-printed label would be clearer. Do not cut stamps or reuse canceled stamps.
A quick decision rule
If the mailpiece is a normal rectangular letter and you accept a small overpayment, multiple Forever stamps are simple. If it is rigid, lumpy, square, unusually thick, international, or valuable, confirm classification first.
