USPS issued the Lowriders Forever stamps on March 13, 2026, in San Diego. The pane of 15 repeats five photographic designs celebrating lowrider car culture and the customized vehicles as mobile works of art.

The lineup spans more than four decades of American automobiles. Three Impalas appear, but the variety of body styles, paint, trim, stance, and presentation prevents the set from reading as five versions of the same car.
Who made the stamps?
USPS art director Antonio Alcalá designed the issue from existing photographs. Humberto “Beto” Mendoza photographed Eight Figures, El Rey, and The Golden Rose; Philip Gordon photographed Let the Good Times Roll/Soy Como Soy and Pocket Change. Danny Alvarado added the pinstriping that ties the pane together.
This division of credit is useful when cataloging the issue. The cars and their builders are the subjects; the photographers created the source images; Alcalá shaped those images into the stamp system; and Alvarado contributed the graphic pinstriping.
Why lowrider culture was selected
USPS describes lowrider culture as rooted in working-class Mexican American and Chicano communities in the American Southwest. Cars are customized not just for movement but for public display, with detailed paint, interiors, hydraulics, and personal or community symbolism. Calling them “rolling canvases” captures why the subject translates naturally to stamps: both forms carry dense visual identity in a compact space.
The pane celebrates a living cultural practice rather than treating the cars only as vintage machines. That distinction helps explain the prominence of vehicle names, photographic portraiture, and ornamental pinstriping.
