A Postcard Forever Stamp is currently worth $0.65; a regular Forever Stamp is worth $0.82. Either provides enough value for an eligible domestic postcard, but the regular stamp overpays by $0.17.
The name can be confusing because both are “Forever” stamps. Forever means each one continues to cover its own category after a price increase. It does not mean every Forever denomination has the same value.

Can you use a regular Forever Stamp on a postcard?
Yes, if the piece qualifies for the domestic postcard price. USPS will not refund the unused $0.17. For a few cards, convenience may matter more than the difference. For a large mailing, the correct Postcard Forever denomination prevents repeated overpayment.
Can a Postcard Forever Stamp go on an envelope?
It can contribute $0.65, but that is less than the current $0.82 one-ounce letter price. The stamp does not acquire regular Forever value because the envelope is small or invitation-shaped. You would need enough additional postage and the envelope would still have to meet letter standards.
When a “postcard” does not qualify for postcard pricing
Retail postcards have specific USPS dimensions and thickness requirements. Notice 123 lists a maximum length of 6 inches, maximum height of 4¼ inches, and thickness from 0.007 to 0.016 inch for the retail postcard price. An oversized, folded, unusually thick, attached, or nonrectangular piece may be treated differently.
Measure the physical piece you will mail, not the dimensions in a seller’s headline.
A local review example worth remembering
One low-rated wedding review warned that the purchased stamps were postcard denomination and did not cover the buyer’s save-the-date mailing as expected. The lesson is not that postcard stamps are bad. It is that the product label, stamp denomination, and final mailpiece classification all have to match.

Domestic vs. international postcards
An eligible international postcard is $1.75. One domestic Postcard Forever Stamp or one regular Forever Stamp is not sufficient by itself. A Global Forever Stamp is normally the simplest option.
