Most standard one-ounce wedding invitations need one regular Forever Stamp, currently $0.82. A qualifying two-ounce invitation needs $1.11. The catch is that wedding suites are rarely just an empty envelope: inserts, liners, ribbon, wax, and square shapes can change the price.
The safest approach is refreshingly simple—assemble one invitation exactly as a guest will receive it, then weigh and check that finished sample.

Weigh the invitation you will actually mail
Do not weigh the invitation card on its own. Include the response card, information insert, envelope liner, belly band, backing card, seal, and anything else in the suite. Seal it too: thickness and uneven areas matter as well as ounces.
This is the clearest lesson from wedding-planning discussions. Couples often receive different estimates because they describe different finished pieces, or because a decorative element was added after the first weighing.
Square envelopes, wax seals, and hand canceling
Square shape, rigidity, clasps, buttons, or uneven thickness can make a letter nonmachinable. A wax seal does not automatically determine the price, but a hard raised seal can contribute to the problem. The current nonmachinable surcharge is $0.49.
A hand-cancel request is not a substitute for correct postage and does not promise that every later processing step will be manual. Ask the accepting Post Office how it will handle your exact sample.
Love stamps and two-ounce wedding stamps
The design does not determine the postage. USPS issued four Love 2026 Forever designs, but each regular Forever Stamp still pays the one-ounce letter rate. USPS also sells wedding-themed two-ounce postage for qualifying heavier invitations.
If design consistency matters, purchase the full quantity at once and include a small allowance for addressing mistakes and last-minute guests.
What 330 wedding-related reviews reveal
Wedding, invitation, save-the-date, or RSVP language appeared in 330 of the 12,101 local reviews. Most of those mentions were positive and focused on design. The instructive negative cases involved denomination: one buyer discovered that a Postcard Forever stamp did not become regular letter postage merely because the save-the-date was postcard-sized.
That example should not be generalized into a delivery statistic. It simply shows why the words printed on the denomination and the USPS classification both matter.
A low-risk mailing workflow
- Assemble the heaviest complete invitation.
- Have USPS check weight, dimensions, and machinability.
- Buy the correct denomination from USPS or an approved provider.
- Mail one sample to yourself before mailing the entire list.
- Check international guests separately.
- Allow enough time to correct an addressing or postage problem.
